Meet Jo
My life, like yours probably, hasn’t always gone to plan.
Some years ago I faced some very challenging personal and professional situations which caused me to take a change in direction. I was working in a toxic environment whilst caring for a sick relative and juggling the rest of my life. I was unfulfilled, feeling drained and burnt out. I tried to power through for a long while until I realised I needed to stop, take stock and find the courage to make some changes.
What really made a difference at that time was talking to a therapist who helped me to understand myself better and see the bigger picture of my life. It required some commitment on my part and a lot of self-reflection but I couldn’t have made the changes I needed and wanted to, without her help and support.
Having qualified as a counsellor and trained as a CBT therapist I am happier and more fulfilled than I have ever been. I have found life skills that I use ongoingly to guide my practice and my life.
How I can support you
I support adults who are feeling stuck, anxious, or emotionally overwhelmed – whether that’s due to past experiences, life transitions or patterns that no longer feel helpful.
We are all different and our stories are unique to us, together we explore what’s going on beneath the surface so you can understand yourself more deeply and feel more grounded in your life.
My Approach
My approach is warm, collaborative, and responsive to your needs.
I work integratively, which means I draw from a range of therapeutic models – always guided by what’s most helpful for you.
I’ll never push you to talk about anything before you’re ready. Instead, we move at a pace that feels safe and manageable, building trust and insight over time.
Clients often say they feel…
- A lot more grounded and steady in themselves
- Much clearer about what they need and why
- Greater compassion towards their own story
- Better able to cope with life’s ups and downs
- Less overwhelmed and more like themselves again

My professional background
Becoming a counsellor and CBT therapist has been one of the most fulfilling journeys of my life.
Along the way, I’ve developed practical tools and life skills that not only guide my work with clients, but also continue to support me personally.
My core training is in person-centred therapeutic counselling, and I now work in an integrative way. This means I draw from a range of approaches to suit your needs, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), psychoeducation and creative techniques. Every person is different, so together we’ll find what feels most helpful for you.
I have a particular interest in supporting people who have experienced trauma or PTSD.
Alongside my private practice, I also work with STARS (Sexual Trauma and Recovery Services) – a Dorset-based charity offering support to people who have experienced domestic abuse, childhood sexual abuse and other types of trauma.
